Discover How To Create 12 Fun Textures In Watercolors
Explore And Experiment With 12 Watercolor Textures!
Hi there, and welcome to my class on creating texture!
Because watercolor is so versatile, there are endless ways to create exciting textures. Adding texture can give your paintings depth, make your subject matter look tactile and real and, of course, make your work more interesting!
One of the cool parts about creating texture in a painting—in any medium, including oil and acrylic—is finding just the right tool to give you the texture you're aiming for, and almost all of the tools you'll need can be found right in your own home!
For example, if you're painting a robin’s egg, you can use an old toothbrush to spatter a paint color onto the egg in a way that will make the egg look more lifelike.
The skills and ideas I present in this course will be useful in just about any painting you create.
I'll teach you 12 textures in this class, but understand that these will only get your imagination going! I’ll demonstrate how to create different effects while providing ideas on how you might use these textures in paintings of your own. When it comes to adding texture, there are endless applications, so you will probably have a lot of you own ideas by the time you finish this course!
Play and explore textures, and most of all have fun!

Your Instructor
As a native of San Diego and graduate of San Diego State University, I have been painting and exhibiting my work for more than 30 years throughout Southern California. The bold lines, fluid shapes, and my color palette are influenced by my father’s paintings and my degree in graphic design.
In much of my work, I seek to capture our emotional and visceral response to a fleeting but sublime moment in time, a combination of color, intensity, movement, and expression.
While known for my representational and abstract work, my love is for portraits, and I have been honored with awards that include Best in Show for Cowboy at the San Dieguito Off Track Gallery and the Logan Award and Golden Award for Maasai Boy at the San Diego Watercolor Society’s 34th International Show.
For over a decade, I have been running workshops and juried watercolor shows in the San Diego area while teaching all levels of watercolor painting at a local community college and in my studio in Encinitas, CA. I find tremendous satisfaction from teaching and seeing my students, improve, gain confidence, and express themselves through watercolor.
